Developing skills for working and volunteering in Asia
On 24 June 2011, fifteen students from Firbank Grammar attended the head office of Australian Volunteers International in Fitzroy for a workplace visit. The girls met with current staff and returned volunteers, each of whom had a unique story to share about their connection with Asia.
Going for gold - Australia's future in Asia
On 29 July 2011, Alice Wheeler from the Australian Olympic Committee in Sydney travelled to north-west Victoria to spend the day with her partner school, Warracknabeal Secondary College. Alice met with a range of students and teachers and shared her experiences and stories of working in Asia.
An Asia exploration with Santos
On 10 August 2011, twenty students from Le Fevre High School visited the offices of Santos, a major Australian oil and gas exploration and production company in Adelaide. The students had an opportunity to meet six people from across the organisation to hear about their work and talk about why it is important to develop Asia skills.
"Opening a Door into Asia" at the University of New South Wales
On 6 September 2011, over 100 school students from six NSW schools visited the University of New South Wales for "Opening a Door into Asia" - a unique opportunity to meet with recent graduates, current students and business people who had undertaken Asian cultural, business or language studies, and to hear about their personal experiences and professional achievements.
Using Asia literacy at PricewaterhouseCoopers
On 9 September 2011, Stephanie Loh from PricewaterhouseCoopers in Brisbane made a visit to her partner school, Whites Hill Secondary College. Stephanie has been working with the school, helping to increase student demand for Asia literacy.
